Cubbing & Hunting
Hunt Schedule
Cubbing season starts the first Saturday of December. Formal hunting begins the first Saturday of January and continues through mid-March.
Hunts are at 8am every Saturday and Wednesday. Members meet for a hosted breakfast every Saturday after the ride.
Throughout the Season and year-round, our group hosts social events and outings.

The Formal Hunt Season
Is Marked by Multiple Events
Blessing of the Hounds
The Opening Hunt is marked by a Blessing of the Hounds.
A ceremony dating back to the 8th Century in France, it is a solemn moment when the riders pay homage to the hounds and receive a blessing of protection for all of the animals involved in the hunt.
“May the horses to be surefooted, the hounds to be swift and disciplined, and the foxes to be fleet of foot and elusive.”
Boxing Day
The day after Christmas is the Boxing Day hunt.
This is the day the hunt shows appreciation for the Huntsman, for showing good sport throughout the season. Members reward the Huntsman for his hard work with small gifts on this day and an acknowledgment of the dedication required to produce a pack of skilled fox hounds.
December 26th is also the feast day of St. Stephen’s, the patron saint of horses.
Hunt Breakfasts
Every Saturday, during formal hunt season, a member hosts a Hunt Breakfast after the ride.
This is a great time to relive the stories of the day and get to know your fellow members. (Remember – the hunt field must stay quiet to allow for communication between the Huntsman and the Hounds!)
You’ll find hospitality, food, and friends – no better combination to celebrate the day!
Hunt Ball
The weekend that commemorates the last hunt of the season is full of activities. We host an extra hunt on Friday followed by a Hunt Breakfast. The Hunt Ball is a black tie dinner featuring live and silent auctions, dancing with live music, and awards. There is a pig roast at the Kennels the next evening, capped off by a Sunday hunt and closing Hunt Breakfast.
A friend of the hunt is a friend for life.

Social Events
Palm Beach Hounds is an active and fun social group. Bonded by our interest in equestrian sport, our shared experiences make socializing easy.
We host educational activities, social gatherings, and an array outings with horses (and without.)
Trail Rides
Trail rides are organized on different territories throughout the summer.
Parade of Hounds
Ride in Wellington’s main Show Arena under the bright lights to showcase our hounds, horses and hunt.

Foxhunting Clinic
One of the best things about foxhunting is being able to get out of the arena and into the pristine nature right here in Southern Florida. You have a chance to see the beauty of our area in ways unavailable in any other way.
While we have adventurous members, we are not a group that makes judgement on bravado or ability: we’re just glad you came along!

If you have never hunted before, please join us for our clinic. Usually held in December, it is open to riders of all disciplines and all riding levels. The only requirement is that you bring a helmet and a smile!
